4 REASONS YOU MAY BE STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT.
Work out. Eat salad. Don't eat cake. Snack on Kale. Put down that burger. Don't eat Pizza.
Aaarrrgggghhhh! I'm doing all of this & I'M STILL NOT LOSING WEIGHT!!!
So what could be going wrong here? Well there are many things that can affect your ability to lose weight, but here are a few reasons you could be struggling:
You have been doing the same long cardio workout for toooooo looooong!
You think doing an hour of steady-state cardio is the way to lose weight? Not really. Your body adapts to the exercise you are doing & becomes more efficient at the task, meaning you don't burn as much energy as you once did completing the exercise.
So what do you do? Go faster? Boo!...Do it for longer? Boring!
Try switching up your exercise. Surprise your body with a range of different movements or add in some weights. Change the duration . Try shorter, more intense styles of exercise to kick start your body's energy burning potential.
You think you are eating healthy, nutritious meals, but in fact...No:
This is a common trap. Your eating healthy right? Fruit, yogurt, muesli and the occasional kale smoothie. Surely your doing the right things for weight loss. Right? Right? Not necessarily.
Very often I ask my clients what they are eating, and I instantly know why they are still struggling to lose weight despite eating healthy foods & having a good workout routine. It usually comes down to the fact that their meals are high carb, low protein & the portions are too big. So how do you fix it? First you start tracking your food. You may be surprised by the amount of calories you are actually consuming. From there you can make some adjustment and make healthier choices.
You aren't getting enough protein:
Now I'm not saying you should be eating ALL of the protein & abandon ALL the carbs. You need carbs for fuel, especially when working out. But are you getting enough protein to help you build muscle, burn fat & help you feel fuller? The exact balance of Protein, Carbs & Fats is always a contentious issue, but by tracking your macro intake over time, you can see what works best for you.
You are depriving yourself of foods you enjoy:
I believe it is very important to eat desert, or pizza or whatever it is you crave...sometimes. Depriving yourself of the foods you enjoy can mean that you obsess over food & what you can't have, rather than enjoying the great, fresh, healthy foods you are eating & seeing food for what it is...fuel.
So schedule in a relaxed meal, and make sure you enjoy it! And then continue eating the great foods that support your weight loss goals.
It important to live a healthy balanced lifestyle, and this doesn't mean you have to sacrifice all the things you enjoy eating all the time, or that you have to workout like a beast for hours everyday. The secret is, everything in moderation.
I recommend having a Meal & Activity Plan designed especially for you and tracking your progress. It's easier than it sounds, and will get you the results you are looking for.
